Inspiration Comes from So Many Places
Inspiration is a strange and interesting phenomena. I am inspired by the sight of small children playing on a play ground and by watching other artists at work. A friend of mine said she is inspired by a blank pallet, by colors and by adveristy. Another friend said he is inspired by music. There are so many things that can inspire us.
I was inspired recently by an article in the Sunday Los Angeles Times. The article is at the following link http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/la-me-lopez29oct29,1,7768012.column?ctrack=1&cset=true and is titled,"As lovers of music, 'We're brothers'." Basically it's about these two musicians who 32 years ago attended Juilliard at that same time, Nathaniel Anthony Ayers and Yo-Yo Ma, a senior and freshman respectively. Ma went on to become an icon while Ayers, suffering from mental illness, went on to become homeless playing a violin with missing strings in the streets where he also lived. He played and never let go of the music. Though he still suffers from his illness, he was taken in and supported such that he plays music, lives in an apartment and actually met up with Ma after Ma's concert. Yo-Yo Ma turned out to be a huge fan Ayers because Ayers was and is extremerly talented. I became a fan of Ayers, too. I've been inspired by him.
As actors, we think we have it so hard sometimes and have to do so much just to get a foot in the door. If we have our health and our talent, then we have so much. Thank you Nathaniel Ayers for allowing your story to be told.
If you're looking for inspiration and the article doesn't do it for you (or the LA Times no longer makes it available), one of the most inspiring books I have ever read is called, "Inspiration, Your Ultimate Calling" by Wayne Dyer. He wrote,"What I'm offereing in this book is the awareness that we can return to a full-time position of inspiration, which is he ture meaning of our life."
My wish today is that having read this you find something to inspire you.
